Happy 125th Anniversary!
2004 was a year of celebration as we commemorated our 125th anniversary as a congregation!
In April 1879, a small group of men and women, moved by a desire to hear the Gospel preached, met in the Waterloo Schoolhouse and organized a church. “The Presbyterian Church of Waterloo” purchased land in 1880 and began to construct their first church building.
In 1920 the original building was remodeled and the congregation changed its name to “Community Presbyterian Church”. In 1967 incorporation papers were brought up to date and the church was renamed “The United Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, Nebraska.”
Another change was on the horizon, when in 1986 the congregation prayed about and discussed (even argued!) whether to move to a new location in Elkhorn and become a new church development for western Douglas County. The majority voted in favor of moving, and the new church was called “Peace Presbyterian Church.”
On May 21, 1989 we first worshiped in the building in Elkhorn. Much sweat, toil and sacrifice brought us to this place and our great facility.
